JOB TITLE: Employment Intern

The International Institute of Boston is a leading multi-cultural provider of comprehensive professional services that aim to foster the success of immigrants and refugees in the United States.  Diverse population groups from all regions of the globe receive assistance through a range of services including Resettlement, Social Services, Legal, Employment, Education and Citizenship Preparation.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
One of the primary goals of our clients is to gain employment.  In order to do this, the clients need guidance in a variety of ways.  The International Institute has a staff of professional employment specialists to assist in and support the job search efforts.  The intern in Employment and Training Services will work with the employment specialists performing a variety of tasks that may include:

REGULAR DUTIES:

> Input client data into our Employment Database.
> Teaching Assistant in Work Orientation/Job Readiness workshops
> Employment Specialist Assistant working with potential employers to present our programs
> Research industry trends and job openings
> Assist Employment Specialists with weekly job-updates and job seeking activities
> Work one-on-one with students to provide support for classroom instruction including helping clients with job applications, resumes and interview practice
> Help staff to plan job fairs and bring students on job site tours

QUALIFICATIONS:
> Pursuing a BA/MA in international relations, computer science, education or related field
> Enjoy working with people from diverse cultures
> Ability to handle multiple tasks
> Patience speaking with non-native English speakers/non-English speakers
> Knowledge of a language other than English very helpful but not mandatory.

TIME COMMITMENT:
Minimum of time commitment: Three months
Hours: To be determined (M-F between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.)


VOLUNTEER POSITION | Citizenship Literacy Class Teacher

PROGRAM:  IIB Legal Department’s Citizenship Literacy Class

POSITION DESCRIPTION: IIB is looking for a volunteer to co-teach the citizenship literacy class to immigrants preparing for the citizenship exam. The class will meet once a week on Tuesday afternoons. The students have a low-level of English and will learn English as a second language along with the civics and history material covered on the citizenship exam.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
>Ability to facilitate groups or classes.
>Ability to plan and prepare for lesson plans.
>Keep record of student attendance and of material covered in class.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 >Multicultural sensitivity and experience with people from diverse backgrounds preferred.
>Background in education helpful, but not required.
