VOLUNTEER POSITION

REPORT TO: Workforce Development

VOLUNTEER TITLE: Classroom and/or Computer Lab Assistant

TIME COMMITMENT:
• Minimum of 2 hours per week
• Programs run September-December, January-March, and March-June

DUTIES:

• Assist instructors in the day or evening programs in the ESOL classroom or computer lab
• Monitor pair and small group activities
• Work one on one with clients requiring additional support
• Teach small classes with specific focuses using curriculum and materials provided by Workforce Development staff

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to relate to persons of all ages and of diverse backgrounds, skills and abilities
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Previous classroom experience and/or familiarity with Windows and other Microsoft applications a plus


INTERNSHIP POSITION

REPORT TO: Director of Development

INTERNSHIP TITLE: Development Intern

Suitable for: Those who are: interested in gaining experience at a non-profit organization, eager to work with minority and immigrant populations and those who wish to learn about and experience the processes involved in non-profit fundraising.

Learning Opportunities

  • Exposure to non-profit Management
  • Exposure to fundraising practices including: grant writing, donor research and cultivation, solicitation and donor and funder acknowledgment
  • Hone research and writing skills
  • Opportunity to learn application processes for receiving city, state and federal funding
  • Sporadic direct service opportunities in other departments within the Institute
  • General office duties and work culture

Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative assistance to the Administrative & Development team (which include several Directors and Senior Executives)
  • Conduct research on a variety of topics including: funding opportunities, individual donors, current events, immigrant & refugee-related statistics, )
  • Assist in organizing Institute events, meetings, retreats, trainings, conferences and fundraising appeals
  • Other duties as necessary

This internship requires:

  • An excellent command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and some PowerPoint
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and process unexpected tasks and deadlines
  • High-levels of professionalism, discretion and maturity in dealing with confidential information
  • A minimum of 20 hours per week commitment
  • Bi-lingual a plus!
  • A writing sample is required

INTERNSHIP POSITION

REPORT TO: Workforce Development

INTERNSHIP TITLE: Hotel Career Center Intern

TIME COMMITMENT:
• 8-12 hours per week (hours to be determined)
• Must be available 2 afternoons per week
• September-November

DUTIES:
• Assist HCC instructor on-site at hotels with English for Advancement or computer classes
• Tutor students with ESL literacy needs focusing on workplace education in a hospitality setting
• Assist with curriculum development and instruction-based projects
• Help with updating resumes, preparing for interviews and searching for job openings as well as exploring opportunities for training/higher education and test preparation

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Pursuing a BA/MA in education, hospitality, marketing or a related field
• Ability to relate to persons of all ages and of diverse backgrounds, skills and abilities
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office
• Ability to establish work priorities and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
• Independent thinking and ability to organize workload
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to adjust and be flexible with changing work needs and demands

INTERNSHIP POSITION

INTERNSHIP TITLE: Intake and Reception Intern

TIME COMMITMENT: Semester or year, 20-40 hours per week

DESCRIPTION: Assist Case Managers in providing initial intake and first phase of assessment for all potential clients and/or emergency cases. Throughout this process, focus will be placed on ensuring best practices and quality care. Also, assist in maintaining the effective operation of the front desk services and telephone.

DUTIES: Intern will assist Case Managers in the following tasks:
• Provide phone and in person consultation to all potential or current clients
• Work with individuals, families and groups providing information, assessment, and support in areas relating to adjustment and social services
• Provide translation services as assigned for Institute clients (if applicable)
• Keep professional and accurate documentation
• Greet people as they enter the building and notify staff of the arrival of visitors, clients and students
• Screen clients and provide information
• Answer and route telephone calls
• Maintain front desk logs and lists
• Provide general administrative support

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Interest in working in a non-profit/social service agency
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deal with the public in a professional manner both in person and on the telephone
• Experience in multicultural environments preferred
• Bi/multi-lingual, cultural capacity preferred; Spanish, French or Arabic particularly desirable
• Experience working with families and/or children preferred
• Team player
• Flexibility and adaptability required

INTERNSHIP POSITION

Internship Title: Executive Intern

Reports to: Administrative Director

Time Commitment: Semester, minimum of 20 hours per week

Hours: Flexible between 8:30 and 5:30 Monday through Friday

Description: Through this internship, become familiar with non-profit management and operations via hands-on experience in our Executive Department:

  • Learn how a successful and growing nonprofit operates in the most cost effective and time efficient way
  • Be part of the day-to-day operations and administration of a direct-care and client service focsed nonprofit
  • See how administration, finance, human resources, development, and special events areas are managed to support program development and client services
  • Build general office experience and skills by carrying out varied duties and responsibilities

Duties:

  • Provide general administrative assistance to the executive team: Administrative Director, Chief of Operations (COO), President/CEO, and other Department Directors
  • Draft and edit documents, spreadsheets, reports and flow charts
  • Assist in organizing internal and external events such as meetings, retreats, trainings, conferences, etc.
  • Conduct miscellaneous and varied research
  • Other duties as assigned

INTERNSHIP POSITION

REPORT TO: Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)

INTERNSHIP TITLE: CQI Intern

TIME COMMITMENT: Semester or year, minimum of 12 hours per week

DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES: Intern will work in coordination with the Director of CQI on a series of projects involving policy and procedures writing, trend analysis, and general administrative support.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Excellent writing and communication skills a must
• Writing sample will be requested at time of interview

INTERNSHIP POSITION

INTERNSHIP POSITION

REPORT TO: Community Services

INTERNSHIP TITLE: Reception and Placement Intern, Case Management Assistant Intern

TIME COMMITMENT:
• Fall/Spring: minimum of 10-15 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks
• Preference will be given to students who can commit 20+ hours per week and two semesters
• Summer: minimum 25 hours per week for the entire summer

DESCRIPTION: We are seeking interns to assist in out refugee resettlement program performing tasks that include cultural and community orientation, assistance with all aspects of case management (securing housing, applying for temporary financial assistance, advocating for health and social services, helping enroll children in schools, and community outreach.

DUTIES:
• Assist Reception and Placement case managers with client cases
• Assist with cultural reception and orientation of newly arrived refugees
• Help set up apartments for newly arrived refugees
• Activation of EBT cards for food stamps
• Obtain Massachusetts IDs for newly arrived refugees
• Assist/accompany refugees with doctors appointment and researching appropriate medical providers for refugees and/or low-income families
• Register children for school
• Secure housing and furniture for newly arrived refugee families
• Help with outreach to the greater Boston community
• Provide general administrative support

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate or Graduate student or posses Baccalaureate or Masters degree, preferably in an international or social service field
• Interest in international, refugee and asylee issues
• Excellent communication and writing skills
• Organized with attention to detail
• A good command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and some PowerPoint
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and process unexpected tasks and deadlines
• High levels of discretion and maturity in dealing with confidential information
• Bilingual and bicultural a plus
• Fluency in Arabic, French, Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole is highly desirable

INTERNSHIP POSITION

REPORT TO: Community Services

INTERNSHIP TITLE: Asylee Program Intern

TIME COMMITMENT:
• Fall/Spring: minimum of 10-15 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks
• Preference will be given to students who can commit 20+ hours per week and two semesters
• Summer: minimum 25 hours per week for the entire summer

DESCRIPTION: We are seeking interns to assist in out Asylee Program performing tasks that include helping to connect clients with services and performing community outreach.

DUTIES: The Asylee Program Intern will assist the Case Manager and asylees with the following tasks:
• Assess new asylees’ eligibility for benefits and services
• Assist new asylees with orientation, including development of clients’ own plan for self-sufficiency
• Call clients with updates and inquiries
• Research community resources for clients
• Assist and accompany asylees in enrollment with health insurance companies and with primary care physicians for medical care
• Assist with other administrative duties as needed, including assisting clients at the front desk
• Help with outreach to the greater Boston community
• Provide general administrative support

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate or Graduate student or posses Baccalaureate or Masters degree, preferably in an international or social service field
• Interest in international asylee issues
• Excellent communication and writing skills
• ORGANIZED with attention to detail
• A good command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and some PowerPoint
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and process unexpected tasks and deadlines
• High levels of discretion and maturity in dealing with confidential information
• Bilingual and bicultural experience a plus

INTERNSHIP POSITION

REPORT TO: Community Services

INTERNSHIP TITLE: Community Services Coordinator Assistant Intern

TIME COMMITMENT:
• Fall/Spring: minimum of 10-15 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks
• Preference will be given to students who can commit 20+ hours per week and two semesters
• Summer: minimum 25 hours per week for the entire summer

DESCRIPTION: We are seeking interns to assist out Community Services Coordinator 32 hours per week (4 days) performing administrative tasks that include organizing projects and schedules, performing administrative tasks (managing files, receiving and routing calls, taking minutes at meetings, researching international issues and regional social services information) and helping to support Community Services counselors and case managers with various administrative and client needs as required.

DUTIES:
• Assist Coordinator in daily operations of the Community Services department
• Schedule meetings, coordinate schedules and maintain departmental calendar
• Research, organize and maintain Community Services reference information
• Develop and edit spreadsheets and presentations
• Provide general office support by way of answering phone calls, drafting correspondence, updating files, and maintaining office space
• Supervise and distribute work to other Community Services interns
• Provide support to Community Services staff and interns as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate or Graduate student or posses Baccalaureate or Masters degree, preferably in an international or social service field
• Extremely well organized, detail oriented, flexible and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Candidate must be punctual, personable, and responsible
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience in data management
• Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
• Commitment to IIB mission and goals
• Interest in international, refugee and asylee issues
• Excellent communication and writing skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and process unexpected tasks and deadlines
